How do I enroll?
Students may enroll at any time. Simply show up 15-30 minutes before a class starts to fill out the enrollment form and you can begin dancing the same day or night!
Can I start any time during the month?
Yes. Classes are ongoing.
If I start in the middle of the month will you prorate tuition?
We prorate tuition only once for new students who come in after the start of the current month.
What happens if I am hospitalized or go on vacation?
If you are hospitalized, please let us know ASAP and we freeze your tuition. If you go on vacation, please plan accordingly and either pay for only those classes you'll take or make up the classes the following month. Please be aware that students can make up missed classes anytime as long as their tuition is paid for the current month.
Do I have to register to try a class?
No. You may try a class for $13.
When do classes start?
Classes are ongoing.
How long is each class?
Each class is one hour.
Do I need to lose weight before starting belly dance classes?
No. We will help you get in shape while you enjoy learning to dance. Our format is excellent for anyone wishing to lose weight, get in shape or become a professional dancer.
Will I lose weight with belly dancing?
Results vary with each individual but our students see faster results when following a sensible diet and daily practice.
How long will it take me to get to level 2?
Our class levels are based on a format created by Shadia. Students must meet the objectives as listed in each level before progressing to the next.
What equipment or costumes do I need to get started?
Students do not need costumes to get started. They need two items to begin. They will need a set of good quality cymbals and a veil. We prefer silk veils and sell them for $42 plus tax. Cymbals are priced at $16 plus tax.
When will I need a costume?
Anyone who can perform one group dance with other students is invited to perform with the studio at various events. Shadia can help with choosing costumes and all costumes must be approved by Shadia.
What do students wear to attend class?
Students wear workout clothing. Any type of clothing usually worn for yoga, aerobics or dance classes may be worn to belly dance classes. Remember, you will sweat and may do some exercises on the floor. Generally, we dance in bare feet but some students wear ballet slippers or modern dance shoes. The best shoes for classes are Native Earth Sandals in either the single or double tab. Hermes Sandals are also great for stage or dance floors and are very affordable. These can be purchased at Dance Distributors.
How soon can I dance at local events?
Students may participate in upcoming events when they can perform at least one studio choreography.
Do I have to perform?
No one is ever forced to perform. Some students prefer attending class for health and exercise and are never required to perform.
How old does a person need to be to join the adult classes?
Students must be a mature 12 years old and able to focus and take direction. Children's classes are offered for girls 5 through 11 years of age.
